All about pride and egos
I'm not really sure how much has changed with them over the last little while. Pretty much nothing has been released since Goblin and Nostalgia, Ultra, so I'm not sure what you're basing that on? Those records, I guess.

Can turn naughty
their shtick as much as anything, but yeah the last few releases were a bit on the lackluster side imo

maybe what i'm saying is that they were well marketed to start with (and had a few good tunes) but don't seem to be able to follow up

Yeah there's not a great deal to be over I don't think? Unless you just mean you have no interest in the old stuff either which is slightly different. I'm not bothered by Goblin or Nostalgia Ultra, but I still like EARL / BASTARD / BlackenedWhite etc. Though I think I've listened to I'm Gay more than any of them which I didn't see coming.

Oh and did we ever discover who produced Gucci Gucci because, uh, I still like it a lot.

While I'm on the topic of Gucci, I've ended up in a slightly weird situation where I have Writing's On the Wall 2 on my phone and I can't seem to get anything on or off it so I've been listening to that one mixtape about 3 times a day for the last month. It's getting to the point where I'm even into the utterly worthless phoned in 'skit' at the beginning. Like, isn't the idea that Gucci and DJ Drama get on the phone and just tell each other how great they are kind of nice? I think this is what is referred to as a 'bromance'.
Don't really like Brrrr (Supa Cold), MVP, and the entire time 50 Cent is rapping though.

You don't like Supa Cold?! That was one of the highlights of WOW2 for me. Then again I never really listened to it properly. It got washed away from my grasp in the constant rip-tide of mixtape releases. I need to revisit it, really (but then I also NEED to give ''Rubber Band Biz'' 1 AND 2 a proper listen... see also: about a dozen other mixtapes from this year alone). Sounds like you had yourself a good problem there.

Haven't really been listening to Odd Future for a while but I still really like ''Earl'' ''Bastard'' and ''Blackenwhite'' when I do listen to them. ''Goblin'' was a bit of a disappointment, wasn't it? (again, I listened to it maybe twice lol)

I was really into them but getting into them made me get into rap music as a whole again and thereupon I entered into a hellishly productive world where there is far too much to listen to to even listen to the stuff you really like.

BTW here is my Fact Magazine review of ''XXX'' by Danny Brown http://www.factmag.com/2011/09/14/danny-brown-xxx/

I'm waiting for the innevitable fall-out of OF fans to attack Domo.

Blackendwhite didn't suffer this fate, because it'd already existed and so the few songs that were new still existed in that post-Goblin wave of excitement. Now that OF have behaved badly to artists who were their peers, and Goblin was so divisive, I imagine that Domo will now be treated rather viciously (especially as Tyler will not be the only producer, and OF's non-Tyler/Left producers are... amateurish). This could in itself change the group's total momentum...

Yeah that El-P verse is good, was all prepared to hate it too.

Danny's verse is alright. Mr. Exquire is alright. The rest of them should shut up forever, though, especially Das Racist.

edit: like the way on that website you posted explaining the lyrics that whoever wrote it completely abandons any objective tone when he's explaining the das racist bit (''You'll never be Nas.'')...

I'm going to give this Mr Exquire album a go. This interview with Noz is quite funny/interesting.

My crib is like the hub. Me and everybody just hang out at my crib. If you come here any time there’s music playing, somebody’s recording, we getting creative, trying to figure out a video, we do whatever. We do wild shit in here, we play video games, we fuck bitches, we color. We just have mad fun in here.

Did you say you color?

Yeah, I color a lot. All of us color. A bunch of gangsta n***** coloring.

Couple of bits I put up on my blog but I know a lot of ppl don't check it so....

Am in the same boat but it's preventing me spending all my money on rekkids. Rubber Band Biz 2 - there's something about it I really like, but it's essential the same song for 70 minutes. It's a good song but i don't need to listen to it twenty four times. There is something weirdly compelling about it though.

Great review btw.

And I'm listening to Juicy J again right now. Actually, maybe I do need to listen to this song 24 times. Damn.

I listened to Future's new mixtape on the way home tonight. Pretty damn good, better than I thought it would be. Production is really interesting, and even if lyrics are the same old same old, they've got something about them.

Here's the opening track:

Think you can really hear the Gucci influence, if I'm not mistaken he calls himself "Young Gucci" at one point.

New Future Tape is OKAY. It's kind of in between True Story, which is excellent, and Dirty Sprite which was promising but really blah.

I honestly prefer Future when he stops making regular rap songs and does sort of poppy anthemic tunes. Stuff like "The Feeling I Get" and "Long Time Coming" are really perfect. Yet at the same time, he's definitely gotten a lot better at writing more aggressive tunes, for a Futurist.

He kinda kills the hook on this, Mavado-ish

That's not my favourite tune from this mixtape, though. That title goes to either:

or

or

I think Trouble really front-loads this tape, although it could be that I just got bored after about 8 tracks.

He really needs to ditch the autotune.

Disagree. Any idiot can use auto-tune, but in Future's case it both strengthens his hooks and helps exaggerate his already freakish voice.

I can't imagine hearing Future's 'bare' voice attempt that weird "Long Time Coming" hook with all his freakish croaking adlibs.
