i can swap rhythm elements, vocals, bass, and sometimes other instruments (it depends on how bad they bleed into other instruments or even other stems though). I can change keys, dub shit out (or just dub out specific parts), cut rhythms at different intervals or even make a new rhythm with existing elements in the track using beatgrids.
That's far from an exhaustive list though.
A lot of the stuff I post here is really just me learning all of these additional tools in vdj as I go along.
The main thing that I can't do, unlike stuff that it tailored more for music production, is save my work, and that can be a pita sometimes.
I mean, I sorta kinda can, but it's a different thing.

There are even things like sample banks (use others that have already been built up, or build your own) and sample pads for triggering them (can assign to my usb mixer).

Yeah, something like a splashy shuffle courtesy of Basement Boys/Spen

equally a Maurice Fulton alias over more minimal sounds where the minimal elements are way too minimal for my ears at least ie BC

ok, so I've been going through my stuff finding and digging out my basic channel/maurizio stuff and getting it ripped so that I have a plethora of tracks from which to work
what I would like from you, please, is to tell me two basement boys/spen tracks with the splashy shuffle you really like that are available digitally somewhere like juno download, beatport, etc.
and the same for a maurice fulton track

Pretty sure I'm gonna use this Maurizio track (which I just realized has the same name as its numerical key value) with the Deepah track
They're also only like 1 bpm apart.

running stems now...

all the dubbed out sounds have a much fuller and more intriguing percussion anchor

you could be sitting on a shrine of remix material here

Thanks!
I can send the file if you're interested.

I added a couple of little extra spices to the Maurizio track, and also added effects (or changed how the effects are working) after build-ups or drops in the Deepah track.
These things don't really jump out due to the nature of the music (unless one is really familiar with the Maurizio track), but they're there.

if you have a file to download that would be marvellous - house is so played out these days, all the records I own tend to cluster between 86-97 and this smashes it (emailed on to some sound system mates)

have 4 boys absolutely besotted by music, could I possibly ask what kit or software you’re using? it’d freshen up their routines of quite rudimentary tweaking, not that I can advise them on said practices

I'll message you a link for the file.

I'm using the pro version of virtual dj with my mixer plugged into the usb.
The mixer I'm using is a bit much if you're just using it for these purposes because it's also fully standalone unit (xdj-rx2) that doesn't need a laptop - the current successors being the xdj-rx3, xdj-xz, and the two big boys: xdj az and the opus quad
but there are much cheaper options out there if you're not bothered by having to always use a laptop with your mixer

ok, this is one of my most insane ones so far, and also the hardest to do!
I had to do several practice runs (even though a lot is improvised with the filtering and rolling/looping/echo/delay) with keeping track of so many things at once and triggering things in time and turning knobs etc.
The title says it all!

ok @Murphy
here's the Basic Channel vs Blaze

I just couldn't deal with the bassline in the Blaze track, but I made it harmonically interesting in other ways.
Besides that, I also had my guys take the tracks 'round back and rough 'em up a bit...
