Also, the reinforced picture discs were somewhat compilation/various artist based...

Another problem of the mid 90s compilation, apart from the bad pressings & tracks fading out are as mentioned before is probably that most feature the same 'hits' continously with a few variations thrown in here and there, so imo the label compilations are a much better snapshot.
