Tempest is odd because all the important stuff happens before the play starts and most of the first act is getting the audience up to speed. It’s the playing out of the consequences that makes the play interesting. Act 4 though is just plain odd - Furies, Masques all that stuff is difficult to pull off well on the stage.

Othello is so great.

I could be wrong but unlike the other tragedies it has this sense of dread hanging over it as you see this one horrible thing unfolding like clockwork.

Did it for A-level. good times. Much better than the other play we had to do A Street Car named desire, turgid american dross - Tennessee williams' with the vocabulary range of a toddler. No doubt it it got all the middle class girls squealing and the boys wanting to bed them because it was so flash, and like, uh, totally modern and existential, but at that time I was listening to Crazy Titch and Bounty Killer so...
