i listened to ha! again and can't say i really like it, and also don't remember it. but yes the beat is pretty good, theres a nice grimy swooshy sound in there. i tried to help myself by watching the video but i'm not sure that was a good strategy. about halfway through, the chorus from 1:51, the whole song seems to fit and click into focus. maybe if i heard it everywhere i went for the summer, i would end up liking it. i dunno, some songs you do need that repeated exposure. like the first time i heard 'wearing my rolex' i really didn't like it, thought it was a total joke, couldn't quite believe what i was hearing, but it grew on me, then slowly it was everywhere and became tune of the summer. not that i listen to it much now. thats probably a bad example tbh. i can't think of another right now. so perhaps what kanye is doing is going for that immediacy, in the sparse big beats and slowish drawl? so you hook on the first listen? but there's less depth or detail, so repeated listens don't bear as much fruit. i dunno, perhaps this is a fruitless exploration.
