I'm a complete eediot about politics/the world but I'm wondering if anyone here has an opinion on

What happens after trump? Will he be seen as a blip in terms of being so openly corrupt and after he dies it'll return to the sort of quiet(ISH) corruption of before, or does whoever comes after have to BE a trump figure?

Or maybe in other words, did Trump invent the conditions of his own election, and if trump didn't exist we'd be seeing the republicans fielding a mitt Romney type?

Complicated question ofc
Personally I'd guess we'd just return to the status quo of subtle(ish) mafioso realpolitik after Trump. I think his brand is just a bit more overt (hence his appeal, I suppose).

Didn't Biden just pardon his criminal son and pre-pardon someone who played a pivotal role in messing up the whole world for 2 years?

You don't have to be a Trump fan to think a president shouldn't be able to pardon his own son - or anyone really. And what the fuck is a pre-pardon?
An admission of guilt.
They can still be charged under state laws, and General Milley will still be court martialed.

Basically it's completely wrong that some guy can on a whim unilaterally pardon someone found guilty in a court of law.

the biden pardons, the early ones that only version was reporting and the mainstream media were ignoring were one of those things that make you think something is seriously wrong with the world. particularly becasue they dont become big news stories.

I guess I could accept a pardon if it was sone miscarriage of justice where the judge had to sentence cos of some legal technicality or similar. But just cos the president likes them or happens to be their dad, how is that OK?

Most of the Biden "pardons" are commuted sentences for non-violent or drug offenders are they not? They did thousands of weed convictions last month

There are some mental ones and the administration was clearly crooked as fuck, mind. But a commuted sentence and a pardon are different things
