When he sings "picks up my scent on his fingers / while hes watching the waitress's legs" he's going to hold up two sticky fingers to the camera. And he'll have a womans fresh musk on them.

That's the first laugh react I've ever gotten from Corpsey in five years of the forum. Now I know how to push his buttons. It's all laugh reacts from here

"Cactus Tree" is such an anthem song for her I think, "...While she was busy being free..."

One of her best melodies, the way it rolls restless earthbound before climbing up like a smoke signal.

Cactus Tree was written on October 12, 1967. Joni introduced it this way on that date at the Second Fret in Philadelphia:

Three nights ago I went to a movie in New York City – a Bob Dylan movie. The new Bob Dylan and Joan Baez live feature movie [ed: Don't Look Back]. And I’d never seen Dylan perform, you see, so I wondered why David Blue and Eric Andersen, though they were supposed to be imitators of Dylan, neither one of them were alike and I found out that Eric has Dylan’s sense of humour and David Blue is his grouchiness. At least that is in my humble opinion. But, uh, I’m about to be influenced by Mr. Dylan. You see, I’m late to this and everybody who started out as songwriters, at this point has been influenced by Mr. Dylan. Well, to this point, I don’t think I have. At least, I haven’t noticed. This is, by the way it’s a photograph of me, but it’s not intended to impress you. It’s a cue card for me. This song I just wrote today, so if you notice the melody sort of varies from verse to verse it’s because I haven’t really decided on a few things so I’m throwing them all out at you. Every time I hear whispering, I’ll take that part out. 'Doesn't hold their attention there'...

i will maybe look more at lyrics for later vids but this did come out way longer than i thought, maybe a podcast is a better use of expression but i like video format better

I do really love the album cover in person, the LP. The way the birds are skywriting. All the flowing swirling spiral layers. Have you taken a look at other drawings and paintings she's done? Wonder if you'd like

How does the simplicity of her guitarwork and her emphasis on voice-as-instrument compare to stripped down early Dylan records ya reckon?

The medievalism you pick up on in I Had A King. People talk about how important medievalism was for Romanticism. I feel like Bob is in many ways one of the most emblematic Romantics of his generation, at least with the early 60s records, but is the same true for Joni I wonder. For The Roses is perhaps her most Romantic record—escape into nature—but it sits oddly in her oeuvre. There's also stuff like California, on Blue, that talks about travel and experience in a Romantic way. Like Shelley in the ruins of Rome, Mitchell in a Cretan cave.
