There he is, the gazer, the sifter.

Consumption is too definitive for him.

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and shrug!

I sound like I'm being mean, but I'm not.😂 I find Version a genuinely fascinating, enigmatic character of historical dimensions. I mean, I only realised this the day before yesterday, but there it is.

Greatness has been thrust upon him despite the fact he never leaves the house.

I forgot about the Hugh Grant thing. About a Boy.

Good morning, Version. I am just about to go and have some lunch.

Amazing.

You are the distilled essence of your time. Of course you're not unique, you're literally a version. But you are such a pure version of everybody else that you are the Ideal Form. Abstract, perfect, unchanging.😂🤣🤣
Ouch. I disagree, what's in a name? A version by any other name would taste as sweet

"I think hurricanes should be named after women, don't you?" Just then, Virgil's sister Linsey comes into the office, the open door letting in stormwinds that blow papers off the table, drive the office into disorder. This is how you know Cameron’s done the mythology reading, or at least delved into Paglia. I’m not saying Virgil’s right, or Cameron’s right, or even that the mythology is right. I’m just pointing out the correspondence. This correspondence is also why, when something unknowable shows up at their doorstep, Linsey and the sensitive soul Jammer are the first two to see it, and everyone else’s degree of disbelief testifies to the rigidity of their thinking, their entertainment of possibility outside their conceptual schema.
This is the kinda thing I think Abyss is good for.

OK back to Alien

It's no coincidence they spend so much time talking about food, talking about how bad the ship food is, how they don't know what it's made of. It's no coincidence that in talking about food Parker makes a sexual jab at Lambert, consuming a woman consuming a meal. It's no coincidence we see Jonesy eating its meal. You know who else is getting its meal? Lil alien baby. The camera sits at chest level. the dining room is like a womb. The chatter becomes white noise. Kane coughs.

I posted this on another forum that mvuent was part of but I think it's worth reposting

How does she finally get rid of the alien? She dons a personal atmosphere, a space suit, a little bubble, a little garden wall. She straps herself in to the chair. She sings "You are my lucky, lucky, lucky..." like a mantra. She floods the shuttle with toxic gasses. Heavy breathing in the space suit. It still isn't dead. She opens the shuttle door, the air lock, so the vacuum of space sucks it out, but it's caught on a harpoon rope and works its way back into the ship, via a thruster. Only then, finally, is it blown out by rocket fuel. She watches it go, exhausted and hallucinatory. She recites the names of the dead. "I should reach the frontier in about six weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up." Everything in this movie is a metaphor. She begins how she started, in the little death of hyper-sleep.

The way I want us to think about this stuff is as deeply metaphorical, as metaphors for our own social engineering, the way we include and exclude people at cocktail parties and on high school quads. There’s a Letterboxd review for Alien along the lines of “this is me when I find a cockroach in my house.” Which is a good joke, but also a very telling metaphor. Yes, the alien is like an insect. He’s been designed to channel all those associations, from his exoskeleton to his slime secretions. They say a cockroach can survive a nuclear blast—well. This film can and does tell us real things about our relationships about insects as an other. Similarly, we should think about how devoted Ripley is to her cat, Jonesy. That cat’s relationship to mice is almost identical to the alien’s relationship to the crew of the Nostromo. The mice feel the same sense of terror. This is about predators. And we, and our pets too, are predators. That’s who we are. Not “them,” us.

On its way to Ceres, the ice hauler Canterbury receives a distress signal from the freighter Scopuli. The distress signal is erased from the Canterbury logs, presumed to be pirate bait, but acting Executive Officer Jim Holden secretly reports the signal to company headquarters, forcing the captain to send a rescue mission aboard the shuttle Knight. Holden, joined on the Knight by ship's engineer Naomi Nagata, the mechanic Amos Burton, the pilot Alex Kamal, and the medic Shed Garvey, find the Scopuli empty and recover the distress signal transponder. As the shuttle heads back, a mysterious stealth ship destroys the ship Canterbury with nuclear torpedoes, leaving the Knight crew as the only survivors.

Alien never achieved the sheer gut wrenching terror one had in knowing that Red Dwarf would soon be on

The polymorph episode
