nice. i've never been anywhere near the southern bit of south america. it's kind of a void in my imagination. all i've got are images and received ideas. the brazillians i've met remind me of jamaicans a bit in that there's a warmth to the culture ie people seem to let you in quite quickly.

I disagree. I find brazilians the most obnoxious people on the planet not including south africans and israelis Vile hateful culture.

Beautiful lush garden city, SP. People very kind. I like speaking bastard Latin conglomerates at people and it actually working. That was fun in Italy too. You feel tuned in with the empire and its diaspora.

It's interesting you mention this along with Italy.
I've been totally stunned and completely bewildered in the past while watching my cousin's family from Brazil carrying on conversations with my aunt while she speaks Italian.
I can't understand how it's really that easily understood to people on both sides while still being separate languages. seems crazy to me even with the Latin roots!

Here in Brazil Spanish speakers just do this drunken slur and it's as if they were speaking Portuguese. It works like, 50% of the time?

not sure if you're familiar with it, but my cousin with the brazilian family is also way into this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira
Have you heard of it?
I don't know if it's some previously obscure thing that suddenly gained popularity in the last few years and/or if I've just had my head in the sand.
I don't know much about it but I guess it's apparently popular enough that there are several places in Seattle that teach it, and it looks like there are even a couple of places here in the carolinas that teach it - It's weird to me given she's the only person I've ever known to speak of it
