i like doing things like this where you have a good impulse of being nice so you do the nice thing, but you make it a bit evil, like leaving out limburger so his feelings are hurt. it just puts a bit of spice into it.

Im sure subservience is part of it but its primarily because its a mans genre and we dont understand women thus making the films mysterious and spooky

If we look at Her, still properly sci fi but not the same type of man movie, we have a lady robot but its the man who is sexually obtuse

robots in general are often female because of the executives secretary/maid/mother dynamic so sci fi movies follow suit but its a second order connection. its a movie, the first impulse is to stimulate.

Id go so far as to say kubrick was aware of this and opted to make HAL male becuase of it- the voyeuristic watching, the denial games- if it was a lady robot using the same delivery the sexuality would be distracting
