Yesterday, I wanted to go to the post office to pick up two (or possibly three) packages that we somehow missed when the postie brought them. The problem is, that, now we're in lockdown, it seems that every single person in the town is ordering stuff like crazy as it's the only form of entertainment available to them. When I got up I looked out of the balcony and was horrified to see the queue coming out the door and half-way back to our flat. Which is why today the crack of dawn found me sitting on the balcony in my dressing gown, watching the sun rise and reconnoitring the place over a cup of coffee and a cigarette. And cos I had to get up so early (by my standards), I really found it incredibly hard to get to sleep at any point of the night. So gonna finish this coffee, achieve my task for the day, and then go back to bed and finally sleep I hope.

Yep. Though when I said my life was ruined that was probably a little strong. I'm hopeful that if I go down to the PO in three hours time and get the packages I will be able to reconstruct some kind of miserable existence from the tattered remnants of my life and eke out a few more almost bearable years a result.

It's worse than I fucking thought, it's the 16th today, turns out it's not until 2pm tomorrow... as I found out when I went down there again. Fuck me.

i went for a pointless walk in the rain. sometimes i go out for a walk that is so pointless that i literally find myself doing 360s on one spot unable to decide which pointless direction to go in. today was one of those days. ending up in a light trance in a sainsburys local spaced out in the aisles. came home with some loose leaf tea and a Genoa cake (£1.60)

Further research has revealed that today is the (incredibly ironically named in the circumstances) Carnaval - a Brazilian import which is taking place today without any fucking carnival. And @luka it's like what you said about one of those horribly depressing flat days when the only thing on telly is Flying Doctors* - well it's basically like that here but, the only thing on telly is some shitty Marvel film called Daredevil, one of the only things that makes you realise how spoiled you were when you could watch an Aussie soap about doctors going round the outback in helicopters (I guess, I never made it through the credits). Anyway, fuck it, I'm going in, I'm gonna watch Daredevil and it had better be good.


*The only thing I remember about Flying Doctors was the fact that, in Australia, they were two or three years ahead of us in the UK and a decision was made at one point to synchronise the two countries (no doubt because there were so many desperate fans trying to contact Australian relatives and find out what was going to happen and it was clogging up the phone system or something) - and they did this by basically by just jumping forward three years to what they were showing in Oz. Although, they did provide a two minute long recap thing to fill people in on the three hundred odd episodes that they missed. But, they did have a sense of humour about it, cos a spokesman said "We kept all the good bits".

Just in case anyone's life is empty enough to want an update on the PO situation - inevitably when I woke up this morning there was a queue with hundreds of people and it's been like that all day.
