Just had a quick flick through Ithaca and I don't really see it, but it occurred to me maybe Beckett could be a sort of bridge between the two.

It's the technical stuff. The way he talks about the distance the water travels, the piping, etc. Reminds me of Prynne pulling from science books and inserting that sort of hard data and technical language into his poetry.

I like how at one point he says something like "It may certainly be true that..." about some amazing coincidence or synchronicity he's discovered. Nice little slip or sleight of hand that keeps stringing you along.

It's a fine tightrope that he walks and he does it very well. He's a good writer. Plus he provides very convincing evidence.

That bit about the Chinese translator of finnegans wake cong rong is brilliant, and it certainly might even be true.

"It does not necessarily follow that because nothing ever happened on these dates that nothing comparable will ever happen...

..it happened in the imagination of XXX and, as an event in the imagination, it is eternal. It only lacks physical manifestation."

This is brilliant, and true I think.

"The Perfect will always lack. It is only the Whole which embraces the constant interplay of opposites. The Whole's affirmation of the cycle transforms it. The nightmare of history is created by those who attempt to perfect it, to make it pure. It is ended, or at least greatly altered, by realizing that no element, even evil itself, is ultimately dominant, determinant or essential. All is in play at once."

Wow, the whole "Like trying to control a dream" section of this book is unbelievably good.
"It should be obvious by now that no movement, no event, no person, can ever be reduced to black and white terms. Complexity, nuance, variance, contradiction, surprise - these are always in play."

It's impressive how deep he goes into these wild, often opposite, ideas he's discussing, give them credence, while always always maintaining a fine balance. He manages to goes off into the deep end of conspiracy and imagination and keep a clear head throughout. Not an easy thing to do.
