Is there a distinction between psy and goa trance? One time in India there was this crazy shit (I assumed it was goa trance, although this was way down south in another state) being played at a very chill beach side cafe. It was basically a kick and then a bunch of found sounds/foley/field recordings playing these abstract rhythms. Really raw and abrasive. Didn't fit the setting at all, but that made it all the better. Was like danceable music concrete

And yeah. Wow. Psy. Tried really hard to get it. Has to be something about it, right? Can't be that big and have that dedicated a following if it's shit, right? There's got to be some gems! Met a supposedly well known dj at that Buddhist place in October. Asked her to play me her secret weapons. Her darkest, trippiest shit. Fkn nada, man. Emotionless. Have you ever listened to it.... On acid?

yeah listened to it on ket+acid even, was just annoying. it's those 16th note basslines that really vex me digga digga digga. it's not even emotionally terrifying in a grubby way like Bunker shit, which i would have enjoyed

think the difference is goa is melodic/early but psy isn't? I have no idea tbh. that danceable music concrete doesn't sound like either, unless



but yeah i much prefer the darker space synth/euro/italo that came before goa trance which i think is 92-93 onwards.
