Totally forgot about this until fairly late in the evening but did my duty and had a pint of Guinness and read the first Bloom chapter.
Not enough, no, but there's the Unforgettable cat, the trip to the butcher and the woman with the nice hams he wants to follow (who he predicts will stride into the arms of a piggy constable), the "grey sunken cunt of the world" (Israel) as the cloud crosses the sun, the allusions to a complex life we can only skate on the surface of, the trip to the jakes with the crazy door, reading a "neat" piece of prose and then wiping his arse with it, intimations of horror at the thought of boylan... It's setting the table (kidney and all) for the rest of the book, so not a good chapter to pluck out but I tried didn't I, here's to you Mr Joyce
