I could imagine finding rip groove really offensive at the time. Feeling that jungle was at the point that it could be almost parodied; that it’s soundworld was already at the point where you can just take it and whack it on a house beat. This amazing music already becoming cliched signifiers.

I really love the track (in part because it distilled that soundworld so comprehensively) but it does point to a culture being very easily and conveniently packaged.
