no. none at all. it's just a larf or terror mate. those are the two central emotions of drugs.
it's the poor mans religion, and ever the more sad for that.
That's not been my experience at all.

I don't think anyone here would claim to have a well-adjusted personality!
That's not been my experience at all.
are you denying psychedelics as used today are just a knock-off substitute for religion?
When one fantasy dies, another takes its place. We are never without fantasies. We are fantasy.

Uh, yeah, I guess so. Sure, why not, I'll claim that!
People that use psychedelics are disgusting. I share your disgust. They're not my people. I don't mind if you want to give them a kicking
ok, brilliant, cheers.
It's true though innit. You know it's true. We're just stories. There's no real to burrow down to or to be left exposed on the cold hard floor of, sobbing.
i like jeremy deller i do. and there's nice footage in there.
but to reduce rave to a specific political perspective? to try and cram it into a tiny iron box like that? SURELY anyone can see it was a lot more complicated. thank god it was a WHOLE LOT DEEPER than that...
i don't even want to go into it - like luke says it's a turn off - but the knots deller ties himsely up in when he talks about paul staines/guido fawkes crystallise it.
and to return to the thread's point. the sixties wasn't the SDS and the new left. and the sixties was a whole lot more avowedly political than the rave era ever was.
schizophrenia is the cognitive dissonance of the person who realises that society doesn't permit for the actor to guide the stuffy teacher. the teacher is a man of knowledge, but not a donner of guises.
I didn’t see it as Adam Curtis level world understander stuff. It was a bit more personal, and the format was basically a slightly needy sub teacher trying to convince disinterested and disconnected kids of the importance of old and weird culture, I liked that because in that approach is the acceptance of his single point perspective, sentimentality and the ambiguity etc. And to the point of playing down the drugs... that’s obviously intentional (and prob key consideration in yeh format he chose) because of the conservative knee jerk reactions around drugs and their influence evident in this thread and tabloids
