Beast of Burden
Eve.

Late 90s with barriers falling down. This is one of those great post-Timbaland R&B smashes in a time of plenty. The late 90s seemed like a truly horrible time for pop music as it was happening and these hi-tech American tunes (see also Mya, Writing on the Wall-era Destiny’s Child, Aaliyah, etc.) and speed garage morphing into 2-step morphing into UKG seemed to be all the good stuff on offer. Looking back, I was just being greedy, that was plenty to be getting on with.

This is one of the sexiest records ever made.

woops

is not like other people
this is boring as fuck, by numbers 00 house crap but the vocal lifts it to another level so i'll stick around

Beast of Burden
Oh, Jessie. Wait, woops, let me persuade you.

This is the best mix of this song and I found it on an Annie Mac compilation CD. Gorgeous Jim’s brother went out with the Mac years ago and introduced her to dubstep - this is a FACT that Luke and I love. What a hustler she is: a festival courtesan.

This is shimmery Rinse FM pop. Breathlessly beautiful. Tender and artificial to the core. Romantic and modernist. Jessie Ware is subject to diminishing returns but she has two other moments of transcendence (‘Imagine It Was Us’, ‘110%') and that’s enough for now.
