Obviously one of the all time great bowlers, if not the best, but the fact he could weigh in with the odd 50 at test level which his bowling peers couldn't do elevates him above them as a player.

I think what did for him is years of fast food, smoking, hairdye and coke - pretty standard lifestyle but not possible to maintain with international genius level sport. See also Maradona whose hair is naturally bleach blond colour and which he darkened throughout his life.
