Invitation for the more learned here talk a little on the relationship of sin and the Abrahamic religions.

Why the fixation? Why is sin inevitable and when does it take hold? Is sin demanded by love as its necessary counter pole?

I like Kafka's take on original sin, placing extra emphasis on original sin as inherited rather than innate, and that its the passing down of damnation, this lineage, that is its continued existence.

Its emphasis serves to block meditation on the divine, because if you were to do that god knows what demons could be conjured. Then it’d be “careful now, down with that sort of thing”.

I grew up in a catholic household and remember the first time I went to confession as a kid. I was so confused and put off by the entire ritual that I didn't know what to say when I got into the confessional booth, so I just made up a couple of stories about how I stole some quarters of my dad's desk and hit my brother. the act of confession actually prompted me to lie to a priest, just so I'd have some reasonably acceptable "sins" for which to atone. how fucked up is that?!

Unfortunately my mother ingratiated herself with the parish priest (used to invite around for dinner), so I toned down my sin list in case any of it got back to her. Skip any mention of jazz mags (10 Rosaries) and just mumble something about disrespecting my parents or teachers (2).
