Most people here don't even like him. They reckon he can't write well. Which is ridiculous. He writes great it just has the heat taken out of it. Reptilian.

Detached scientific style but I would say he does write really well. I read crash whilst at uni, at the height of my ballard/sinclair/psychogeography passion and told all my mates to read it. One of them said it was a total joke, 'he just keeps saying pubis all the time'

That was sort of it actually. He couldn't see the point. There's no point with ballard, you either buy the vision of don't. If you don't, it's cos you can't see it.

I get very annoyed with people who talk about something not having a plot or the way it's written "getting in the way of the story".

Yeah he was like, why would anyone ever do this, behave like this. And then at that point, finds the prose very stilted etc

Ballard does sort of require a different sort of reading and crash is quite hard I would say. Those early novels like drowned world are very accessible tho

The word "semen" appears in this novel 61 times.

"Blood" appears 78 times.
"Vomit", 11 times.
"Mucus", 8 times.
"Excrement", thrice.
and "Smegma", twice.

That's really all you need to know about this novel.
