According to the wiki I just skimmed, Catholicism isn't so much against sodomy/homosexuality as much as it is against any non-procreative sexual act. I knew that they don't like anything non-procreative, but I thought there was an additional thing on top of that which made them anti-gay.

I would guess the origin of this is in promoting social cohesion/order by forbidding lustful acts which will fuck up society?

Or maybe just something to do with the shame that accompanies certain lustful acts? Like, why is it that christians decided wanking was bad when most people have a great time wanking? Is it because wanking leads you to neglecting your duties, perhaps? Or that you feel quite depressed after having a wank, probably doubly so when you're living in the desert and you've got sand in your peehole.

The Book of Leviticus specifically prescribes the death penalty for both M-M and F-F gayness, I think. So it's a prejudice that goes back to long before the emergence of Roman Catholicism as a distinct Christian sect, and before Christianity existed at all.

I don't think it actually does say wanking is bad. Onan, history's most famous wanker isn't actually a wanker, he pulls out of his bird and "spills his seed on the ground" which is why God kills him (and probably 10,000 of his relatives or whatever). So "onanism" or "the sin of onan" or whatever oughtn't to be the wanking as such but rather the spillage.
Also, re homosexuality in the Bible, there is the bit where it does specifically say "if a man lies down with a man as with a woman it's an abomination and they must be stoned to death" - but that is the ONLY specific mention I think. It's in Leviticus next to all the stuff about stoning or burning anyone who eats bats or shellfish or wears clothes made out of two different materials or cuts their hair too short on their temples... but for some reason people don't seem to bang on about that stuff so much these days.
