Done the opposite route as a kid with my grandparents a stack of times, but Ynys Mon to St Davids. Cardigan and Mwnt beach, a little gaff called Naternis and the beach cove at Cwmtydu where no-one was there. To be frank I’m glad it isn’t more popular, although Cardigan certainly is.

You could do it in less than 24 hours of driving I reckon, whereas now, if I got the car and headed East I could theoretically drive to, I dunno, Vladivostok or something and it would take weeks.

Lake District was the first one I think. They didn’t really do any walking there, but neither would i if the bbc was paying for swanky Michelin treatment, day in day out.

My first proper job was driving a van! (For a right on charity admittedly).

I haven't owned a car for many year though and then only briefly.

Used to drive from London to see the in-laws around Beddgelert and Porth:

London traffic jam -> motorway -> completely evil winding mountain roads when you are knackered. With rain.

Came unstuck a few times. We get the train now.

There are some scary coast roads in Setubal, real windy* fuckers like in Herbie Goes Bananas or whatever... the locals rex round em really fast too.

* as in tortuous, not lots of wind, though maybe that too.

UK Road trips can be cool as long as you stay away from the motorways. London to Cornwall through all those A roads and past Stonehenge etc is a nice easy one, 5 hours or whatever. Pretty.

My Nan’s favourite spot was Aberglaslyn. Haven’t been there for yonks. Tremendous routes from memory. We had a family photo done at the bridge there every year. Crimes against fashion and my sister’s tortoiseshell specs complete with a plaster holding the hinge together. Any bf she brought home, those photos came out.
