I'm not a big gaming person but if it was there was some half-off deal or whatever on Steam I might grab it
the look of it is good, faithful to the basic Gibson vision, untainted by the aesthetic of all those horrible early-mid 90s cyberpunk films

in re a blander, more efficient future it's probably important to remember that Gibson was writing about the seamy criminal underworld
presumably much of the Sprawl is bland homogeneous corporate space
but also I think he overrated urban decay and underrated gentrification - i.e. the recapture of urban cores by capital
writing in the early 80s the scope of that may not have been apparent
yunno coming out of the late 70s when New York almost declared bankruptcy, the Lower East Side was awash in junkies and abandoned bldgs, etc

i hate the version of cyberpunk its gone with. blade runner is great bc its all analog and suffused with loneliness and melancholia. it still works bc now it plays as sort of an elegy for a future we've been denied in favor of something loud and garish and shitty. 2077 just looks loud and garish and shitty. i'm not that interested in something that just turns modern day info overload up like 5%.
most of this could be fixed with a different soundtrack though. maybe they've saved the good stuff for the game and the festival edm for the trailers.

It looks like EDM sounds. Red Bull and Monster's vision of cyberpunk. I'd have preferred something a bit darker and more stylised. The actual Blade Runner game nailed the atmosphere,

Looks cool and all but it does sort of seem as though they have just put together every cyberpunk cliche that's ever been created together in one big splurge and gone "play around in this". I suppose that if you like cyberpunk then you will like it.
What's good in the cyberpunk genre since Neuromancer? Any real killer books or films I won't know of?

Played a little bit of it so far, ultimately quite impressive.
Takes the baton from Borderlands in a few ways (the item rarity Uncommon/Rare/Epic/Legendary is color for color, word for word, the same), but perhaps such trends stretch even farther back. But honestly I think it works. Like a shared language is being incrementally defined across games. Cyberpunk is like a more serious Borderlands.
Playing on very hard, which has already been overwhelming a couple times (the early deal with the Maelstrom gang was genuinely terrifying), but nothing unmanageable.
Plus its also a satisfying game, loot-wise. I love these games that encourage hoarding, scouring the premises for equipment and knick-knacks.
