The emasculation question has fallen out of vogue I think. Its telling that almost every piece of media mentioned in this thread is over a decade old. The only subsets still explicitly concerned with it are your reactionary types on the fringe, and mainstream groups that can be assumed susceptible to the rhetoric rally around nationality, ethnicity, and class instead. easy answer is that the white male struggle (and I think whiteness is intimate here) in light of the last ten years is not only uncool but untoward. but another side could be along what patty was gesturing at with the 'empowered nerd'- processes that were once looked at as emasculating are now places to assert dominance, aggression, manliness. Something like 'tech bro' should be an oxymoron but it isn't.
