Now there's slander rolling out too that his stats were, well, not so much juiced as superficial—that his style of play wasn't winning team ball. A weird claim given they were the runner-up to the championship last year but statsheads gonna stat.

It's much bigger than that. They've traded a generational talent in his mid-20s, the face of their organisation, to another team for basically fuck all and without putting him on the market for others to bid on. It'd be like 2010 Barca suddenly announcing they were sending Messi to Man Utd in exchange for Rooney.
That sounds perfectly fair to me.

I do actually know who Luka is cos they talked about him a lot in Serbia - after all he's from a nearby country.
Cos I'm really polite I was unable to say no to watching the entirety Belgrade vs Real Madrid on telly with a big basketball fan, and actually I enjoyed it well enough.

I was trying to think of someone United had who's a great player, but obviously mad to swap Messi for. The Mavs are getting Anthony Davis in return.

Yeah I'm just messing around. I see they got another hall of famer or all-star or bestest guarder or something but not of the same status right?

You gotta feel a bit bad for this Davis guy when people are going "he's so lame comparatively that this trade only makes sense as some kind of weird money-laundering thing probably involving paedos" or words to that effect.

Was there any money or anything else as make-weight or was it just literally one-for-one?

As an aside, reading that article and seeing teams described as "franchises" is one thing that makes me literally physically angry and think that Americans should be banned from watching and playing sports (even more than they already are).

No, not no comment, you can't sit on the fence here. Someone has to tell me what to think on this I really have no idea.

The trade had an almost universally negative reaction from Mavericks fans. The morning after the trade, a group of fans gathered outside of the American Airlines Center to protest the trade, with some holding signs that said, "I'm sick" and "Worst trade in NBA history." Other signs called for Harrison's firing. Fans also held a vigil outside of American Airlines Center and even carried a coffin as if the event were a funeral

Like when they thought Maradona was gonna leave Napoli and the fans all chained themselves to the gate.

It's universally agreed upon to be the most unexpected trade in nba history. So the fact that it happened to my team is not unlike having a relative in the towers on 9/11
