I feel almost tempted to dissect the specific stems from the mix and try to scavenge some. Some of these sound objects could be said to have some beauty in them, though they are fucking wackily arranged

such bollocks but it sounds like a white trash version of neptunes beat with some joker/dark0 overtones lmao. the arrangement is dire tho.

keep wishing @blissblogger would right a book/essay called the eurodisco continuum: from hi nrg to gabba and hardstyle. Not because I like more of the overt euro sounds, they are always too jolly for me, but because it would send the wire and associate into existential meltdown.

with all this, it's amazing that orientalism has been having a great time since basically forever, through the downfall of goa trance, psy crap, then all the 2010s shit too, even the chiptune brostep trax included, and further

speaking of pendulum, ukf dnb upload from three hours ago lol
im not sure how well did their sound age, considering the sound design is below the level of a ten year old with an ipad for 2024 standards

how can it age or not age when it was never good to begin with?

it's pure craft with very little musical information, development or content. that was what I was trying to highlight to @dilbert1 in the jungle thread. on one hand the old stuff sounds acoustically primitive by the standards of sound-design craft, but musically it is still well in advance of all dnb, and for that matter, nearly all dance music, which is why I'm a jungle evangelist, and not an evangelist for dnb, albeit certain areas I can appreciate as a logical progression, but they are flexible. Pendulum and jump up dnb in general are a logical progression in the rudimentary sense of entertainment and 95-97 jump up, it's just that I think is that all that needed to be said in that mode was already said by 90s jump up, and even some of that can start to get excessively corny (see joker records as an example.)

this is why I find it kind of bizarre people like @Corpsey trying to claim skrillex is more futuristic because of the smiley faces on machines or whatever, but surely american brostep was just the transposition of what people like Noisia and spor (and pendulum for that matter) were doing in the 00s?

granted I'm using jungle very loosely in the form of 93-98, just at the turning point of the advent of 2step. otherwise the interminable debates of what is jungle and what isn't. so I'm considering 94-95 era bukem sound and 96 techstep as part of this amorphous jungle evangelism, even if technically they were the beginnings of what we know today to be dnb.
