Well, shit... after a crash course in gain staging, it appears if you are operating in the purely digital realm, as long as you avoid any clipping... the headroom issue is not a big one. Nevertheless, I've enjoyed learning about the mastering requirements, and now have everything set to -6db headroom as good practice.

Except if you're using analog emulating plugins*. Take Decapitator from Sound Toys. Hit that with 0db of compressed drum loop in your DAW and you'll get crunchy pretty fast. It can sound nice, but, if you put a gain plugin before it and pull the level down to about -18db average, you'll have a wider range of sounds and tones available, and they're more likely to be pleasing to the ear. This is because -18db in the digital domain is equivalent to 0db in the analog domain, aka the sweet spot to hit your hardware gear at.

*not all analog emulating plugins are calibrated for -18. Most are, but some are calibrated for 0db. You can either check the manual or just try hitting them both ways and see which sounds best.

So here's a third tune to consider. Note: I am not trying to get three tunes on the comp, or even two! It's just another option in case people like it better than the others.

I think jungle techno was still very breakbeat-oriented (except Basement releases), whereas your tune even more techno-y Been thinking to do "literal jungle techno", which would be fast techno with jungle's melodic-side and bass, but not with breakbeats. Jungle's melodic-side has still alot of untapped potential, and it's pretty unique sound with it's rootedness and organicness, compared to say, trance or techno.

There's also twitch, beatsense and raddio. Need to look into the 2nd two a bit more. The best choice would be the easiest one for people to join. Ideally without much faffing about needed. I suggested 5pm GMTon the 26th for the listening party which is just over 48 hours from now. So far no one has confirmed, but it would be great if the remaining folks get their stuff sent over to me in the next 24 hours
