Yeah, just how it works. He seems to have gotten a lot from Debord, Barthes and Saussure. That being said, I much prefer Baudrillard to the Repeater stuff.

It does all sound a bit familiar and I suppose thoroughly gone over with k punk, repeater etc.
Something that occurred to me last night was there's a nervous energy to the English stuff like Mark's whereas Baudrillard's much more cool and detached. You could read that as a purely aesthetic thing or some indication of morality, but the latter's more enjoyable to read, imo.

Another thing that appears to be happening is people conflating anyone taking issue with the pandemic response or apprehensive about the vaccine with their mental image of a stereotypical Trump supporter or conspiracy theorist when that isn't really the case.
They're still doing it,

There's a Thiel interview where he says Girard believes scapegoating only works if the people aren't conscious that that's what they're doing. I can see the argument if we're talking some ancient people doing it based on a belief it will please the gods, bring back the rain or whatever, but nowadays I've a sense of people almost doing it for the love of the game and any particular outcome or narrative being less important than just having a target.
