we have these stores in amsterdam that 100% cater to (american) tourists selling "authentic" "dutch" cookies, except there's nothing authentic about it and they just use a lot of old looking wood and interior design bits to make it all look that way. some of these stores became a hit on tiktok and now you will have people queuing for up to 1 hour (!!!), just to buy a cookie. the municipality has ordered these stores to implement some sort of crowd control to manage the queue outside. the cookie itself i don't know much about but neither me, nor any of my friends or family or any dutch person at all has ever eaten one i think.

Donna introduced me to two Dutch foods which I was surprised to find myself enjoying- one is called speculoos or something and it is basically liquid cookies that you spread on toast, the other - not actually surprising in that it's just a small pancake so obviously it's nice but I was surprised that Dutch people had the taste buds to notice this - was called something like popperjuice I think.

There's also a Belgian version, Biscoff.
They're also made as regular cookies, but you can also get them as "cookie butter" or as you say liquid cookies, or as an ice cream flavor.
One of my favorite flavors... they give them out here on planes as a snack sometimes.
You ever have stroopwafels?

I read about Biscoff the other day - turns out it's readily available in UK but I just somehow never had it.

No idea what stroopwafels are, thru sound like something out of the BFG.

yeh i've never tried the speculoos actually. it's the liquid variant of the speculaas cookie that is basically a lot of cinnamon. the little pancakes are called poffertjes, there is a special pan that you can buy to make them.
