there's that, but it's more like (quoting from google ai):

"Antinatalism is a philosophical perspective that argues procreation is morally wrong or unjustifiable. Antinatalists believe that bringing sentient beings into existence is a harm, often citing reasons like the inevitable suffering and death in life, and the lack of consent when someone is born. Some antinatalists believe it would be better if no one had children ever again.

Here's a more detailed look:
  • Core Argument:
Antinatalists argue that having children is inherently harmful because of the inherent suffering and potential for suffering in human life.

  • Lack of Consent:
A key argument is that individuals are born without their consent, meaning they don't get to choose whether or not they come into existence.

  • Ethical Considerations:
Antinatalists question the ethical implications of bringing new lives into a world where suffering and death are inevitable.

  • Not Limited to Humans:
While often focused on human procreation, antinatalism can extend to other sentient beings, arguing that bringing any being into existence is a harm.

  • Variations in Belief:
Not all antinatalists hold the same views. Some believe it's always wrong to procreate, while others hold more nuanced views.

  • Examples:
David Benatar, a prominent anti-natalist philosopher, argues that it would be better if no one had children."
It’s new to me. Not something I never thought though. My initial knee jerk reaction is that it’s just not doable. There are too many people who want to/won’t not procreate.
The reasoning given, the cessation of suffering and lack of consent is interesting.
The first part (@suffering) feels like some Buddhist splinter of a ‘Children of Men’ as utopian outcome.
The second part, the lack of consent I really don’t know how to answer as how would one get consent from a biological function/phenominon.
I do understand the concept though (I think) undoubtedly the human race has done more harm & brought more suffering to fellow sentient, or just living being than can be justified (imo).

I will say I myself was never keen on having a child. Everyone was telling me, “Your life is going to change completely” that scared the shite out of me. I was relatively happy/ worry-free as a bachelor. When my child was born, and this was as close to the miraculous as an atheist of my sort can muster. Within short minutes of having held my baby (there has to be some scientific, bio/hormonal explanation)
I could no longer imagine my life without this person in it ever again. Moreover, my whole way of life previous to this event seemed trivial/unimportant. I was willing to do any/everything to ensure this new life’s care/love. I had never experienced this.
As a child, at whatever point one reaches the awareness of who mommy/daddy is they have been there since before that. In this case I was profoundly in love with a being I didn’t even know 20 minutes beforehand.
Wild. It’s just my own (though I don’t think uncommon experience.
On the other side of the coin, when I worked in the jails, I can’t count the amount of parasitic creeps who took great pride in getting women pregnant they had no intention of caring for beyond boasting how many broads they had kids with. One murderous pos who was probably never going to be free himself, was bragging how he had a baby momma in all five boroughs of the city. Sickening.

I have read about men of science, Shockley I think might have been one but there was another as well who posited the idea of essentially receiving a survival wage for life if they agreed to undergo sterilization. They were pounded by the media, church etc.
But I think we can all agree that there are too many people having too many kids who have no business having the public’s consent live among us never mind procreate.

I also think it's fucked up when people keep having more children until they have a specific gender.
"well, I guess we gotta keep poppin 'em out until we get the one we want"
it also seems very vain - if you want a child, why not adopt? why's it gotta be a mini-me?

er... i was gonna try to keep my mouth shut

Nah, you shouldn’t not express thoughts you feel strongly about. I know the hackneyed trope is that people don’t ever change their mind by reading others views. The results that make News tend to me more of a “He was radicalized online, and did xyz “ but for me, reading people’s pov’s have at the very least given me things to consider I wouldn’t have otherwise.

Also, I know people who’ve adopted & I think there’s probably far more children than their are willing people to adopt them but it’s far from uncommon
