He sort of squares the circle Doom, he's not aggy gangsta, but nor is he trying to be too clever or conscious, he's got that crucial oddball surreal side. I love that one kode9 remixed, air.

boy have I an artist for you. MIKE is a rapper/producer, (produces under the name DJ Blackpower) heavily inspired by DOOM and madlib, he has the same lazy off-kilter flow of DOOM but with a bit more poetic/personal element to it. many of his beats, (depending on the album and track) are also a little hazier, fried with more effects, and often include more extreme pitch differences.

These 2 fit together well, both young men reflecting with a tinge of sadness on their early life/current state of affairs. You feel for them both.

Not so keen on the voice fx on the first one, but then I listened a 2nd time over a speaker and it was less of a sticking point.

The over-repetition of that line "I had to make a couple bens by my lonely" was also something that clicked well the 2nd listen. About 2/3 of the way through where he changes pace was good.

2nd one... I suppose I like it a little bit less, feels a bit too sparse in the beat, but appreciate that this is a vocal performance first and foremost and he's pretty good, it's has a stream of consciousness feel and the lack of a noticeable chorus doesn't matter much, you kinda get pulled along by the sheer always-moving-on nature of it. He seems a more proficient rapper but in songs of this style, that doesn't matter the most. He also switches up into a more traditional singing voice at times.

Think I prefer the first one, just in the sense that I am intrigued to check out more by him, over the 2nd one, who sounds like a lot of other people.

Mike is one of those artists who only exists to make the sounds of other artists less abrasive to girls youre trying to sleep with

sharing this cause he was one of the two rappers i started this thread off with but Drakeo the Ruler's dead as a result of getting stabbed at a festival

people are still unsure cause nothing official official has come out but with Jeff Weiss and Drake offering condolences i have little hope

the Ghostface verse is great as he's one of the few rappers who can pull out great verses on R&B songs

but The 411 to me they sound like they just gold told 20 minutes ahead of time that they'd have to rap instead of sing,they just sound so stiff and awkward
