You should get back into it! What're you trying to do with them though, I guess? What're your aspirations, with the knowledge?

I stopped because there were no real aspirations beyond just general learning and becoming more clever. Which I think I did, much better at shooting from the hip now, might be why I stopped.

It is fun having a material, tactile neural network outside your head. Anytime you have a vague remembrance or thought on something you can go back and find it in the books and re concretize the info

Yeah I get that. I do definitely value my thoughts and like I said, I go back, re-read things, they sometimes lead to stuff.

It's more that my system is a bit more incoherent and slapdash.

Although, maybe similar to what you said about always having something to fall back on, all my notebooks are also full of drawings as well as text, and something I found myself doing over the last couple of years, was returning to these to colour and paint the drawings, which was a sort of easy, mindless in a sense, but in doing it, I saw my old thoughts etc.

The notebooks are very precious to me now I think of it.

Living in hope that something will kick in and I will become fiercely regimental and systematic. More like @thirdform basically but it would probably require some awful life changing trauma for those kind of shifts to occur post 30

I can be quite good with systems, I ‘get’ stuff at a shallow level quickly but not in a meaningful way

lastly, do not listen to any indie pop whatsoever. When you can't hack the mechanised pound of techno, gabba, house, jungle, trap rap.. classic soul and beethoven will do the trick. Avoid Mozart at all costs, nonce music for nonces. Bach is good, but only on harpsichord.

Any clinical book I have has notes that are just stickies with key words indexed, ish, but fun reads (fiction or factual) for chewing on = why?

I suppose it’s when you’re pursuing something, building the project. Without some massive nervous breakdown tipping into hyper patternistic thinking, or maybe some war situation, impressing a girl etc … those would be the only reasons I’d be taking notes
