I have a similar reaction to weird music as a lot of ambient music (which probably falls into the category of weird) -- which is that I can't tell if it's good or not.

And on the one hand you might say that means it isn't good, of course, cloth brain

Or you might say why do you need to know if something's good or not anyway, cheese brain

went to some galleries today. this was what was in one of them. i genuinely had to decide whether or not there was actually anything on, or if i've just walked into an empty room and the girl at the desk mistook me for a guest or something.

went, with a hangover, to something which i think is correctly categorized as 'contemporary dance'. i'd tried to go into the venue earlier in the week coz i thought it was a gallery. it was absolutely brilliant. low lights and six dancers making weird juddery movements for an hour. i was surprised at how expressive it was. i thought a lot of that sort of thing might be a bit show-offy or alternatively one of those things where you have no idea what its all about until you read a blurb. but i thought even though it was admittedly pretty abstract it was easy enough for all the flailing about and body movements to express some kind of emotion. to be fair i had spent about an hour in a coffee shop staring into a wall with a hangover thinking about the world and my existence in it etc just before so i was in the right mood for it

went to see the damien hurst chopped up animals stuff today, which i'd never seen before. there was quite a lot of it at the gallery. it was gash to be honest. i was stressed and grumpy about something else and not in the mood, but - i mean i'm sure it's all been said before about this stuff - it really felt like shock value was its only value

since the pandemic ended and they reopened, roulette, which is a venue in brooklyn that exclusively books artists i've never heard of, has started filming literally everything they put on, in quite high quality, and putting it all online for free. there's loads of it by this point.
