Possibly a false memory as I don't think the radio would have been battery powered so I would have been inside

Thinking "I Like To Move It" by the Mad Stuntman and "Boom Boom Boom" by The Outhere Brothers were the best songs ever created

I am personally having a bit of a thing with dancehall at the moment, it feels a bit like those two to me, in terms of the rewiring effect

"No Limits" - vivid memories of spinning in a circle to it and my parents telling me that it wasn't proper dancing, "but that's what she does in the video!"

things like that and I Like To Move It and Boom Boom Boom are more like rock songs, really - those big riffs, they've got more in common with things like Another One Bites The Dust and Whole Lotta Love than they do most dance music, I think that's why they've endured so well with audiences.

I'm considering trying to punt an argument that most Queen hits have more in common with dance pop than rock, but I'm not sure I could pull it off.

I don't think you could argue that you can trust a child's taste – because they've heard so little, and they're fatally vulnerable to horrible, gimmicky music.

But OTOH they're somewhat untarnished, not self-conscious and preening about their taste like adults is.

I suppose taste is never wholly perfect, or innocent, except in the case of luka.

Yeah there's no subtlety to them at all, it's an earworm riff going on and on and on.

Also, kids love those gimmicky call and response shouts because they don't have a notion of toe-curling embarrassment yet (or at least not the same notion).

I'm trying to remember now if I took music at all seriously as a youngling. I was thinking about that "Techno! Techno! Techno!" bit in 2 Unlimited. How as a kid I'd have loved that because it was silly. Whereas now it makes me toes and lip curl because it's silly.
