this link up with bacardi guy Dj Dadaman with the same really harsh synth sound (i think it's from the DX7 originally) has been everywhere since it was released

i'm not as much of a fan of this one but it definitely captures the big return to old school kwaito and bacardi sounds in amapiano

i feel like a lot of people are doing the more refined "sgidongo" sound now as well. Tots SA has got some smooth bangers but doesn't seem to have released many of them

it still gets the hype going, but in a more subtle, slowburning way that comes from all the layered percussion and really resonant popping basslines instead of the distorted 808-log drum.

hotfurze is another one of my faves with that sound

the subtlety of these tracks feels almost like an antidote or reply to the more intense distorted, nandipha808 (etc) style log drum solo tracks with their massive drops. it feels especially interesting that it's coming from younger and newer names on the scene. they're not trying to go harder and more aggy, just chilling everything out instead.

the distorted logo drum stuff feels like amapiano's bro-step in comparison to sgidongo (but i still enjoy it)

maybe the propensity to subtle housey sgidongo vibes are a regional thing too tho, i have no idea

i really enjoy tracks by rifledeep, vibekulture sa and laz mfanaka for the absolute melodrama and reckless sonics, but compared to sgidongo they're more like something to behold than dance to... unless maybe you've got a crazy tiktok routine i dunno.

you'll see what i mean about the bro-step with this one

fun toplines too, early grime vibes

these feel like they exist in a completely different amapiano timeline to the smooth sgidongo stuff

fave amapiano track of the year so far

it's a 30 second clip ripped from instagram, looped into what looks like a full track length. a sign of a strong genre when people do uploads like these

The clipping on the bass is really freaking me out, making me think there's something wrong with my speakers!
