I was at a bar recently, and its important to say that it was a bar slash artisan pizza by the slice place, and they were playing this type of music while adult swim cartoons played silently on the tv. its a millennial thing

no one actually likes the sketchy, ignorant art style as art itself, it only works as a personality attachment. same goes for the music, it only exists for people with no predilections whatsoever beyond wanting to be the type of person who 'likes all types of music'

yeah there are bits of this i like but the production makes it sound a bit cheesy, it makes the odd duff lyric sound totally ridiculous

i mean @linebaugh is right about this sort of thing being for people who just say they like all kinds of music but i feel like this kind of music speaks to the sort of person who talks about missing rock music with swagger, the kind of music that made you want to kick windows in knowing damn well they would never do that lol

every time i check out bands on the glastonbury lineup (repeatedly a fruitless endeavor) i come across some stuff like this. this dude benefits has cropped up a few times, this is his most popular tune apparently.

i still find it weird that people like this, it's hard to pick apart. there's a class-performative thing running through all of this music.

but math rock is too intellectual. this has some of the precision, but more macho.

i like the new idles album. nothing fancy, quite dumb in places, but still very good and intense. the production is a bit more finessed than what i expected from them too.
