I appreciate his films but have a weird impression of him. he gave a talk at my college and came off as a crass salesman, spent more time hyping and manning his merch table than speaking about the films.

One thing I've realised from these death threads is, if you want to be remembered and have people make a thing of your death, it's very important not to die on the same day as someone more famous than you. The lesser death is always completely overshadowed and basically ignored.

I get the impression that that has been a focus over recent years. In fact I think I've heard him moaning bitterly about how he never made the money he deserved from his early work (Hollywood Babylon was his most lucrative thing) and he wants to make up for at least some of it with merch etc

if I was WILLIAM KENT I'd like to express a slight depression because of my love of Timothy and Prunella's canal boat series where Prunella would say 'who am I? where am I I?" and Timothy would navigate the canal and slowly guide her back to consensus reality
I'm surprised she has outlived him

I, if I was WILLIAM KENT, recommend the GREAT CANAL JOURNEYS series
Timmy looks after dementia sufferer Prunella Scales on the waterways of UK and Europe (series 2 they got into THE NETHERLANDS and France )
they are both "luvvies", the Stratford upon Avon episode is insufferable
but I'm only saying that because , if I was WILLIAM KENT, I have navigated the same waterways as depicted in series one ( UK canals as prescribed by the Nicholson guides )
edit: if I was WILLIAM KENT I would relate how me and my best friend would get wrecked on weed and watch "GREAT CANAL JOURNEYS" and make sick jokes about... I try to be a good person but I'm not, I am evil, etc
