people often post images of ben affleck smoking a cigarette but i've never really gotten the appeal, is it because he looks depressed?

He's somehow become a symbol of sadness, even the malaise of the modern condition

Not sure if he's actually sad or if they just catch him at these moments that we all have, even if we're millionaires

I guess it feels 'acceptable' to laugh cos he's rich successful and hooking up with ana des armes

There's also, as with many of these memes, a 'relatability' to his face in those moments. So he's a sort of avatar (on a modest scale) of the misery of millenials.

He's actually sad. He's an alcoholic with a history of mental illness.
