most importantly from paddington you can be in oxfordshire in about 45 minutes, that's why it's the ideal spot

Let's Talk About Ceps
The main impression I have of Reading is of a large housing estate adjacent to the railway line passing through the town, close to the station, which is notable for having an especially egregious case of what Owen 'Craner's bête noire' Hatherley calls 'Blair hats', namely those truly hideous, outsized overhanging roofs you see on so many buildings from around the turn of the millennium:

Is there somewhere maybe interesting you could suggest which is also outside tourist lands or
sheffield maybe coz it's both pleasant and interesting (at least i find it interesting). if pleasant isn't a requirement, the train from london to bath stops in reading, didcot and swindon. for a solid tour of grim britannia you could stop off at all of them.
