we claim that the real swagger of jungle is in techno techno techno, and why some of the new junglists are inhibited as they want to become the modern version of the white reggae fan aka the UK version of the german techno purist paging @chava when in reality they should be making modern dancehall consumers like barty listen to techno, like the junglists did in 91-93.

DJ Phantasy - Tell me something (remix)

Ballbusting latin freestyle breaks sending all dancers into orbit around the earth. pure 92 modernism and a prelude of the darkside to come later...

Auto Plex - Rebel Call.

Kind of out of joint with the music being released in 93, screachy synths married to the renegade soundwave break. Mostly played by the likes of Top Buzz and Slipmatt. But its a case of calibrated intensity, drop it at the right time and it can take your set to another level, like the best of orthodox techno...

Escape - Escape (the optical mix)

Released on No Noise recordings of Edzy of Unique 3 fame) who are these guys anyway? Enzo Annecchini, John Khan, Patrick Cargill. Basically the consummate marriage of detroit techno and breakbeat hardcore, definitely one played by Scotty, and I would wager, a big influence on the likes of Bukem. Completely sounds different to anything released in 92, almost like what euphoric

Nebula II - X Plore H Core. OK OK it's bait but fuck it. Sometimes the big tunes are big for a reason. predatorial cyborgs roaming the earth and sublimating everything in their midst. What's not to like? the best. That bit where it just drops out to the shuddering drum-machine like breakbeat is one of the finest points in rhythmic dance music, pure gangsta bebopisms to hold all your tendons in a vice grip.

Ignore the discogs reviews which say this is nothing special, they are wrong. peacemaker is fantastic but this is a double a-side release really.

Out of Order - Tears. just before the genre silos had separated into good and bad musics, where trance and gabber weren't dirty words, and even has a darkly melancholic appeal to be considered as proto-happy hardcore.

continental/detroit techno tracks played by uk hardcore djs also count, so excluding colin dale/faver/dave angel just for consistency, otherwise we could be here all day.

Out-Phaze - It's Wonderful Being Alive

don't tell me Burial never heard this B side, re: South London Boroughs EP

but the A side, a Sunset radio 808 state / spin masters favourite, features on a couple of Jay Weardon of The Thunderdome fame ( the king of techno ) mixtapes from 1992

Out-Phaze - Drop The Bass

is this the kind of gear you are hoping to score?

obvious, but it's Playford in 'ardkore you know da score mode

2 bad mice - bombscare

this was another big tune on sunset radio's 808 state / spin masters radio show, they'd normally play it before launching into some Belgium / beldam hoover monster "as far as I can recall", I think there's an acronym AFAIK

I used to buy a couple of cans of tenants super, neck a few coproxamyl and smoke my share of the squidgy black I was supposed to be selling and tune into the spin masters show, C90 in the deck, finger on pause

tunes like these primed those who were not already accustomed to choppage and breakage via electro, etc., to the full on junglist vibes that were about to be unleashed in the years ahead
