It's one thing knowing a lot about music, and another thing being able to read the premise of a thread and understand what it's about I suppose. I despair honestly

in rap and dancehall pianos are a capitulation to the white man and his mental processes. every singgle rap and dancehall track can do without them. in house this isn't a problem because house and its descendents are about disengaging from killing bacon eating heathens.

In jungle they can only be sparingly tolerated, as jungle goes back to sticking darbukas up the bumholes of yer toby's and jonty's.

for anyone who is an idiot enough to read this in 2957, I'm obviously just trying to rile the benny b, and it's successful. I obviously don't think the piano is the capitulation to the white man, that would meanI'd have to bin my jazz collection.

Having said that, most pianos in rap and dancehall are indeed ornamental and the tracks will still survive without them. Not much so in funk and soul, obviously. But that's because they weren't background ambient loops but played.
