Savage beatings of women aside, is it fair to say that all the really cool movie guys are old and moribund now?

Maybe that shows that our notion of masculine 'cool' equates to shagging and beating women by the truckload.

Is Timothy Chalamet our Al Pacino?

Tom Hardy's that kind of movie guy. He's a psycho, or at least so badly wants people to think he is that he behaves like one anyway.

Somehow Brad Pitt's still going strong despite behaving like that, but there's seemingly less of it among younger stars. The current crop are more likely to be doing goofy humour or interviews where they talk about therapy and try to show their sensitive side, e.g. Andrew Garfield.

It has been reported that Hackman frequently insulted the young W3s Andersen on set, going as far as allegedly calling him a c*nt,

That's great!

ps I think that the mystery word there is 'cunt'

It happened to Jack Nicholson.

I thought it was something different with Bundy though, wasn't the rumour that his grandfather was also his father?

Ok having read through your were talking about Jack not Hackman so that comment was redundant.

Some family members expressed suspicions that Bundy was sired by Louise's own father, Samuel Cowell. However, in the 2020 documentary film Crazy, Not Insane, psychiatrist Dorothy Otnow Lewis claimed she received a sample of Bundy's blood and that a DNA test had confirmed that he was not the product of incest.

He allegedly beat that sex worker so badly she was left with permanent brain damage. He was also accused of rupturing another woman's breast implant. There's loads of fucked stories about him. The Polanski thing happened in one of his houses.
he respects great filmmakers....not really sure theres much else to say there

Kind of a cross post with “how people talk on twitter” or whatever but I seeing this especially with gene hackman’s death, people get so quick make big proclamations when these things happen…. Seeing multiple posts saying “the greatest American actor there ever has or will be” and “the most electrifying actor ever”…. And like… really? These people are just going to say the same shit when the next big name actor dies… idk why I’m even bothered to post about this but it makes me think of @vershy versh talking so much about how people online love to put themselves front and center with these types of good faith takes just to make it look like the believe “the right opinion”

Yep.

"Hackman was a pretty good actor, better than most and worse than some but not really an icon. I'll be mildly sad for a couple of mins although the potentially salacious circumstances of his death do intrigue me rather."

Isn't gonna cut it.

The bodies were found by two maintenance workers. Arakawa was lying on the bathroom floor. A prescription pill bottle was open on the countertop, with pills scattered nearby. Hackman was discovered in the mud room, adjacent to the kitchen, with his sunglasses at his side.
It appeared to the detective that both had fallen to the ground. A dead dog was also found in the bathroom closet, near Arakawa’s body. Two healthy dogs were also found on the property, one near Arakawa and the other running loose outdoors. The front door of the house was open, though there was no sign of forcible entry.
The fire department and the gas company were called out to check for a natural gas leak, which could cause carbon monoxide poisoning. They did not detect anything, and there were “no obvious signs of a gas leak,” Arndt wrote.

One of my favourites but been in some bad films as well as the good. The one I will rewatch is Eureka, as I can't remember if it's good or not.

This story's getting madder and madder.

Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found partially mummified at the couple's $3.3 million mansion, with pills strewn in their bathroom.
An arrest warrant obtained by DailyMail.com revealed Arakawa, 64, was found decomposed with bloating on her face and mummification in her hands and feet.
Sheriffs said Hackman was found to have the same signs of decomposition as his wife.
