you can see the abundance everywhere in america. the small things like the way everything is in about five layers of packaging. going out to eat in restaurants all the time. disposable everything. new clothes and new shoes. the massive detached houses fifty meters away from the next one. the new york times fact checkers

If I knew all my boardmates lived in a state poorer than Mississippi I'd act really different, I'd be really nice to them and I'd never make fun of their Appalachian homeland. I'd only compliment how beautiful their natural resources, what rich culture they have

dunno i don't understand that at all but i will say that i reckon someone making that kind of money will get healthcare via insurance which is approximately bare times better/fancier than what you get in the uk at least

it's like there's no more distance due to the internet - totally different from the 90's travellers era when you had to go to the post office in a big town to make a call home
but i dunno, also maybe exchange rates from US$/GB£ are not so favorable 30 years on so it's not so super-cheap to vanish into the hills and valleys for 3 months on $100 now?

i ask myself the same question all the time and i genuinely have no idea coz i don't know those kind of people now and i don't stay in hostels now

i saw a slow slow film about laos that was made this year, mostly in vang vieng, that was just an american university lady who had never been there before setting her camera up in a static position here and there, there were travelers in that.......but i don't know if they were exactly like backpackers from the time we were talking about, it's been long enough that the people are different and have different expectations i think. even when i stopped staying in hostels they were changing into something more insta

what's the name of that vang viet film?

i came across this youtube the other day after i read some news articles about that place and how several people died consuming bad alcohol. then i ended up reading all the comments under the video of people lamenting about the "old days".
