by way of gaining knowledge about one's surrounding reality
The Ziziens and Vassarites use words like jailbreak for something similar. @vershy versh have you been tracking that story?
An elephant is possibly a more testing example than a bovine wrt awareness of death eg grieving, mirrored reflection reactions, neural connectivity

it's sort of like that yes, but more about the body as a means to create drugs, which you then take. it's nuts, but he did write a fairly well-regarded book, 'the chemical muse' about general drug use in "ancient" times (his verdict is that there was loads and loads)I haven't watched it yet but I assumed it would be the Christ on Shrooms stuff from the 1970s

I suppose eating children is a bit more in line with 21st century thought
One thing that feels very current is a bunch of people online expressing their sexuality by ironically demanding celebrities do horrific things to them. They can't seem to just say someone's hot, it's always excessively masochistic stuff like "omg aubrey plaza run me over with a truck", "anya taylor-joy stab me to death", "paul mescal shoot me in the face and strangle me." Obviously it's mostly tongue-in-cheek and doesn't carry much weight as a result, but it's clearly a thing and a bit mad when you give it some thought.
