Doctors as Magicians

another thing about this place.... only women work there.... ive been going for years and only women have worked there.... something oddly comforting about it all since dentists are known as evil..... but its all women, so those preconceived views are eradicated when i enter the chair....
My pal has a bit about how suburban dentists run harems of nurses. Then they pick the best in the litter for a spouse

Oh yeah nitrous nitrous is definitely magic. When I went under as a teenager I started physically threatening the medical staff if they wouldn't let me leave. "Throwing my weight around" was the phrase the nurse attendant used.

My brother ran off with a gauzy mouth barefoot looking for ice cream and the pharmacy called the police
They must do that just to give you a laugh. In the uk they just give you an injection that numbs your mouth and it's fine, doesn't hurt, jobs a good'un, there is surely no real justification for getting you properly high like that.

Dentist and assistant were both women for me. And yeah predictably enough I do quite fancy Singeeta or whatever it is. But not enough to actually make me try and make a mumbled attempt to ask her out.... something tells me we wouldn't have much in common.

they needled me up with anesthesia.... they numbed my gums with tasty paste.... cotton balls, pliers, screwdrivers, lights, mirrors, all shoved into my mouth..... the feeling in my lower left lip is gone.... all for what reason? to what end? they tell me to come for a filling. they tell me to come for a clean up.... i never say no..... but why am i there? how much is my life expectancy shifted if i continue to go here or not....

Teeth and gum health is surprisingly connected to things like heart attacks and strokes.

, now they have all these scans of your mouth and they can move around the 3d image like some kind of HMG war fantasy.

I've long thought of the mouth — the buccal cavity — as an onboard laboratory and the cradle of experimental physics. Newton used to delve around his eyeball with a hatpin to be rewarded with colored litez and geometric phosphenes, and I bet he similarly squeaked, swished, flobbed and clicked to get a feel for hydraulics, pneumatics, and hydrodynamics in the proving ground of the mouth, with its soft valleys, ridged palate, and soaring dental ranges.

Dh Lawrence talks all about this in one of his psychoanalysis essays, I'll post it up soon.

I'm thinking I'm gonna do another books of 2024 thread, but ones I read as actual books on paper.

It's all about the solar plexus, lumbar ganglion. He says when you have dreams where you are in a confined space, it's cos your blood is literally being constricted around your body.

Was that Newton though, I've heard variations on that story several times and it's always a different scientist.

Bacon - the artist - was greatly inspired by a book about dental stuff. A book with lots of pictures.
