on the whole, Americans have no sense of humour. There are exceptions of course, Chester Himes, George Schuyler etc. But for the most part, Americans are even more civil than the British, they just hide it under 1 gazillion layers of bumbling self-deprecation.

even Trump is only funny because American democratic culture is so phantasmagorically extremist in its prohibition on humour, so much so that even Stalin definitely would have been executed by now. In actuality he would not be funny in Italy, Turkey, Pakistan, etc. No chance.

This is what I mean. you are just confining all this stuff to thought experiments. I am saying knowledge has to be acquired physically in the physical world as well.

Obviously I don't think the revolution in the 21st century will have to carry out the same levels of repression that 20th century revolutions did, in part because the modes of warfare are different, and we don't have to construct whole capitalist economies. But let us not pretend that nuclear war is not an impossibility.
