Homeless ...again!

Here in Greece I've been acting like a twat and ignoring the fact that my money was running out while checking out some bodacious ancient sites and swanning around like a prannet. Been in the same situ before. Maybe even made a thread about it but can't find anything now.

Not begging, just asking for suggestions. What would you do in this situation? Am in a small town, Nafplio, with a healthy tourism industry. Went around asking places if they need help today. No luck so far. Will do the same again tomorrow, but first am gonna try and find some sort of charity shelter. Apparently the church can help with that. Sleeping under the stars has lost its lustre pretty quickly, have to say. Weather not looking great in the next few days

A guy I met told me to get to Mykonos. He said finding a job there is easy af now the season has started up and they often can be found the same day, and can come with accommodation. So basically I only need to make 60€ to get there. Should be easy enough to make that. Again, not begging. Just asking for tips. Especially how you would approach places offering your services knowing that you only want one or two shifts. Or other means of making the dosh.

Have almost no funds now, so this will be starting from scratch. It also means no way to buy any kind of tools that could be used in the money making schemes.

And yeah, I know. Idiot. It sucks but I did it to myself. Whaddayagonnado.

Get fed, then get paid

Hospitality, give them a mobile of a friend yadda yadda just like Cocktail

Pot washing for food, a chef might look hat you differently but you’re easier to exploit as they’ll know you’re hard up

Cleaning, anything, for food.

Front of house if you have attire

Illegal option - contact the local police, say you got mugged, *two blokes in an off path area “while i was taking a piss!” and they could offer you a German/British contact

Busk

Breakdance

*Sell yourself into the company of male prostitution (jokes)

Cheers @shiels. Actually have a pretty good cv already tho thanks. Have been around a bunch of places today. Thing is I'm in the wrong town by the looks of it. It's a quaint little seaside place and as the season's just began, most spots are already sorted. Plus Brexit means I'd really need things to be by the book with visa and a tax number n shit. Same for rest of Europe. This is the first time I've felt directly fucked by Brexit. Fkn sucks. And here in Greece they've recently tightened all the measures keeping illegal work in check - huge fines if you get caught - 10k for the business 500 for the employee. I do have a German residence permit (aufenhaltstitel) which I thought might help, but that only allows me free passage. No working. So while the chances anyone gets busted are low, in a small place like this where word gets around, is it really worth it for them to help out some random guy? Wind's been knocked out of the sails a bit today. Weather is looking shitty for most of the week too. A guy I met is making a few inquiries for field/yard stuff but am not holding my breath. Brit consulate might help with covering travel back home but then I'm gonna be in the same situ anyway. This Brexit twist has really fucked it all up. Under the table or just helping random people is the only option. But I wouldn't know where to start with that. Just knocking on doors and not speaking Greek? Would make a good film sequence.

Scratch some of the previous post. chatGPT just said this: "Bottom line:

You’re in a very good position. Show up in Mykonos, Santorini, or Crete with a CV and start asking around—you have the legal status and timing on your side."

My German permit was made from before Brexit time so I have fairly similar freedoms to regular EU peeps. Shit is back on. Just need to get to the island. GPT was even heavily hinting at there being a lot of cash in hand shit etc. phew.

Aye you’ll be ok you have the wit to work it out

Kinda sorta. Today's been an emotional roller coaster. Cold approaching places and asking for jobs doesn't come naturally. First tries were going good "ah what's the big deal? Piece of piss, just smile and the world smiles back" 5 rejections later "ah, umm, hehh" then the guy tells me about the fines and that was a major knock. Another guy tells me restaurants aren't easy because they're pretty tightly ran with a specific mentality whatever that was supposed to mean. Had to go and sit down with a bag of Cheetos. Then while sat eating said bag, out of nowhere, a magical and mysterious hand whirls out of the ether and presents me with an offer.

Well, let's just say within 48 hours I should be on the isle of Mykonos, where the next chapter will commence. Thank you mysterious hand!

are you familair with the platform workaway @pattycakes_? i have never used it myself but some of my friends have and their experiences have been good so far. it's a platform on which you can find shelter and food in exchange for "voluntary" work, goes from teaching english to agricultural work. i don't think it would be a permanent solution for your situation but might be something to look into.

I looked into it a few days ago and it looks great but you have to pay to be able to apply for the jobs

Well shit. Have had triple whiplash the last couple of days. Ended up on the Island of Crete instead of Mykonos because it's supposed to be less swanky and more classic Greece, where Mykonos is basically a purpose built arena for rich people to mingle. Crete has history and charm and nicer nature. The jobs are supposed to be plentiful here too. As written upthread, the plan was originally thinking to go cash in hand but then chatGPT got my hopes up by telling me my german residency permit allows work in the EU because it was issued before Brexit. But, then yesterday, just as I was getting some serious leads on some great sounding jobs with accomodation included and 3 meals a day, i.e. the perfect thing for a homeless dude, I double checked and nope, chatGPT gives me a totally different story. It said the employer would need to apply for the visa. What the fuck chatGPT? Moral: don't always trust AI! The visa process is long, which makes no sense for the employer to go through when they can just employ an EU citizen with no hassle. No shortage of those at the mo either. So it's either back to cash in hand, or find an employer who wants to work with me. My CV is good, but maybe not sponsor a visa good. A lot of the ads I saw specify no visa, EU peeps only. Also the cash in hand option isn't as easy to come by now as it used to be here either because they've recently made all that much more risky with big fines due to right wing government and refugees crisis. So basically I'm fucked rn. Almost no money again. The easiest thing would be to either go back to Germany or Austria, where I can work but don't have anywhere to live. Or, go back to the UK. Which isn't happening. Ireland's an option, but idk. Feel kinda tied to the mainland at this point. It's such a fucker because the jobs I was getting lined up for were so sweet. Everything taken care of. First time in my life I've felt the direct effects of Brexit. Pretty angry about it all. What the fuck has it even achieved? Is there any good that came of it? Options now are to see if I can find a place similar to the above jobs in Germany or Austria with built in accommodation and hopefully they'll also cover travel costs. Fingers crossed on that. Or submit to the homeless life and just float around Crete for the rest of my days. There's definitely worse places to be.

Scuse the rant. Had to vent.
