its funny how often you read a book from the olden days and all the things you thought were the characteristic concerns of your own day are described there; like this even has stuff about forcefeeding children Ritalin. (the book is from 1977, before i was even born. before Thatcher had come to power)

i remember reading Jamesons book on postmodernity and it perfectly describes all the things we idly assume are a consequence of the internet
one thing thats going on right now are timeless concerns being articulated as novel phenomena - old things being understood as new ones

People like to rebrand them with new buzzwords too, like the current usage of 'aura' along the lines of the clunky usage of 'aesthetic' a few years back.
