but you don't even know who Jeff Mills is?
'
I still don’t. Should I look it up?

"just"?
I mean, that sounds bangin
To each his own
Thanks. You're not so shabby yourself...
Thanks, I mean I did learn to sort of read lips there. It was si fucking loud someone could be screaming their drink order in your ear and you still couldn’t hear it.
Boom boom boom boomboomboomb boom boom with the DJ intermittently integecting amazing insights as to how banging it was with phrases such as “uh, yeah, c’mon”
And “oh shit”.
Thae $$ was good, free drugs, pretty promiscuous behavior all around. Just not my glass of kool-aid. Just a job.

@Obleak looked him up (Jeff Mills)
I don’t personally remember him. On ‘club/dance’ nights there was no time to chill with DJ’s. A big after hours spot (meaning 8am on) was a place in the East Village/LES called ‘Save the Robots’ may have bumped into him there. But, like the club. Not my scene to just hang out. On nights when there was an act/band, I liked to chat with the engineers.
I was more likely to be found in a very quiet corner bar (yeah, they used to open at 8am)
Lots of 2300~0730 type workers, blue collar, mostly retirees who would come in with their coffee and add whiskey or schnapps to get their heart started. I used to meet one guy who was an electrician for the main post office & another who was a train motorman.
I loved the sun refracting through the stained glass while we would sit at a table and play chess all morning. Ironically enough, those quiet mornings were among the happiest in my life.
I know the OP was probably half taking the piss by starting a thread @ my age.
It’s interesting though.from my POV I’m one of the most open books on here. Far more posters seem (at least to me) quite aloof.

Did you know Collin Strange?
I'm guessing he's the same age as you, and he had his fingers in all sorts of stuff in the electronic/rave scene in 90s NYC. He also ran a record store called "Strange?"
and, like you, he's into hardcore punk (as well as hardcore techno - your favorite)
Became friends with him when I lived in Seattle... He started releasing records and playing lots of shows so would sometimes tag along...
so many crazy stories he has!

That name sounds more familiar. I was present at the NYHC shows in the early 80’s (late81-83/4) Mostly at A7 & CBGB as they allowed all ages. By the late 1980’s into the 90’s I was still going to shows but much more selectively. I went to HS (I didn’t finish one class/got a GED) but hung around the school because a lot of my HC friends went there. Adam Yauch from the BB’s who were the first HC band that crossed over into hip-hop. David Sarti who became a sort of producer or something. This was all pre-85 though. Very few people used their real names. Tags, pseudonyms &c. I hung with the Bklyn crew mostly because we loved the music and did Graf. We used to rep HR. It was a crew name named not only for Lonnie (bad brains singer) but stood for ‘High Rollers’ Was in a band with REVS who is pretty well known in those circles. Colin Strange is someone I feel like if I saw his picture I might remember.
Idk if you’re the same but my early-mid teens can be blurry chronologically.

Collin didn't move there until the early 90s, I believe. Before that, he was in Chicago and somewhere in Indiana before that, IIRC.
This would have been years after NYC, but here is a photo I took of him in 2018 with Christoph Fringeli when they were playing some shows in the northwest. Collin is on the right with the blonde hair:

I doubt we crossed paths. I like his shirt though. The Effigies were a fun band to see..
