Thoughts on this people? I think Gutta's suggestion of a 2-step revival (or rather 2-step/dubstep) is intriguing. But outside of Burial and a few explicitly archival activities (ie- roots of dubstep, various old-skoolers getting involved with 4wrd etc etc) where's the evidence?

There isn't a great deal, but I think Gutta was more in the predictions game...look at it this way, I suspect Burial has been very influential for a lot of up and coming producers behind the scenes, the whole reappraisal of the roots of dubstep since the summer will have brought a (re)freshed set of ideas which will feed through and combine with the halfstep. In vital scenes new producers are always looking at ways to make their sound stand out from what goes before.

none that i know of..LOL!!

that paragraph was the deliberate thought-provoking controvercial bit that is based more on a mood bubbling under the surface than any hard fact. imagine a scenario where the scene splits into 'white' nu skool-halfstep-industrial-mid-range-d'n'b Vs. 'black' old skool-2-step-subby-junglist.

as an extreme example.

it's just science fiction at the moment, though...

just noticed this on tempa's website:
scream_lp_ad.jpg

Hadn't realized there was a release date... and that it was so soon!!

Also, is the Roots of Dubstep compilation out? On CD? In North America?

big up skream...cant wait for this album, and seriously, i never expected such fun weekly shows from an ex-shutin bedroom producer. kid is a good host and rep for "the scene" all the way.

Time Out showcases Dubstep

Anyone seen the new TimeOut, big dubstep feature, some quite cool pics not quite why it takes them so long cover this thing. It's supposed to be a sort of contemporary bible? ;)

Two Questions

1) Has anyone heard Zinc's remix of Skream's "Midnight Request Line"? Is it good? Whats he do to it?

2) How many copies are there of Tempa001 and Tempa002. I dont think Ive ever seen these, except once on GEMM for about $50-$100.

1) not the worst, but not very good, kind of like a sub-standard digital via amit half-stepper, doesnt really bring anything fresh just repackages for the 170> crew

I'm know you've probably all had it on dub about a year, but this new Darqwan 12 on Texture is pretty meaty. I'm particularly feeling Rob One 7 for the really heavy echoes of jungle (the reappearance of the 'Mr Kirk' 'how?' sample, 808 subs, almost jumpup-like tikkatikka hihats) and for the brilliantly rubbish midrange noise.

Beast of Burden
It's a great record. I don't think many people have had it on plate.

I have some terrific DQ1 that doesn't have a release date yet, but he hasn't got a vast amount waiting to come out - QA is very high.

My fave is still Wear the Crown on Tectonic, awesome tune...

in my opinion thats the best track he's made in his entire career, i absolutely love it

am yet to purchase the new one, feeling Last of Nine most from the clips, rob one seven is sick, but im not feeling that midrangey synth too much...

/Falls out of chair. Thats mental money.

Knew the Tempas and 'roots of dubstep' type tunes would be collectable, didn't care and flogged them for nowt a couple of years back... haha :slanted:

Factory Girl
I noticed a Burial track's gonna be featured on the lastest Sci.Fi Hi.Fi compilation off of Soma Records. Tracklisting here.

Quite interesting to see Dubstep colliding with minimal techno. Loco Dice played a fair chunk of dubsteppy sounding tracks the other evening and of course the boys over at Tape, Skull Disco etc are always dabbling in both minimal techno and dubstep. Could produce some interesting results...
